Winding roads snake through green valleys, impressive villas, and cute village towns nestled below the mighty hills and Alpilles Mountains upon which towns like Les Baux sit.
Our expert driver Phillipe gets us to the parking lot. But as they say, it's all up hill from there... about 650 feet, to be exact.
Patrick gives an overview of Les Baux, once a fortified town and now castle ruins perched above the medieval town below. The ruins are open for exploration, and are accented with museums, films, weaponry displays, and interactive demonstrations and tournaments. Back in town, you can browse through cute boutiques (lavender is a popular buy!); have lunch on a patio or get ice cream to go; and explore secret passageways and courtyards.

This was too cute not to include!
Every kid's dream field trip! Practicing archery!
Climbing staircases like this is perilous, but the views from the top are worth it!

Just one part of Les Baux to explore...
Provence et moi!
Les Baux employees get into character, complete with costume, and recruit visitors (including some of our tour members) for fun shows. Here they test-try a trebuchet! While we all know someone we'd like to strap into one of these, a beach ball is the unfortunate victim.

By now you're probably hungry like me. Lunch is on Rick today.
Our tour group (and a friendly local cat) enjoy a delicious, light salad (terrific for a hot day) and a not-so-light but oh-so-heavenly dessert. A crisp rosé complements the meal.
